Circle City Con 2014 – Profiling Campus Crime — Chris J., Jason J., Katelyn C.,Alex H.

Description: Abstract: A student study based on crime alerts to the campus community, of when, where, and the type of crimes that occur around the college campus. Colleges and Universities are required by the Clery Act to report certain types of crimes and provide annual statistics of those crimes. Sources for the study were from publically archived email messages known as “Timely Warnings”, Emergency Text message alerts, and the Daily Crime Logs that are available on the universityâ’s public safety website. Data was collected from the 2007 to 2014 Timely Warnings archive, and then correlated with the Daily Crime Logs. Crimes have been mapped to show the locations of the crimes throughout the years, and if the same crimes occurred at the same locations year after year. Author Bios: Chris J, Jason J, Katelyn C, and Alex H are Information Assurance students at Eastern Michigan University (EMU) researching crime on campus.
